THE WILD
WESTFJORDS
SOLAR ECLIPSE DEPARTURE 2026
A total solar eclipse will cross Iceland this August, offering a rare moment when daylight fades and the landscape is transformed beneath a darkened sky. To celebrate this extraordinary event, we’ve designed a special departure that combines optimal eclipse viewing with an in-depth exploration of the remote and captivating Westfjords. this is an adventure which takes you into one of Iceland’s most secluded regions, where dramatic fjords, rugged mountains, and charming fishing villages create an atmosphere of tranquility rarely found elsewhere in the country.
Often described as Iceland’s hidden treasure, the Westfjords reward those willing to venture off the main routes. With fewer visitors and vast, untouched landscapes, the region invites you to reconnect with nature through rewarding hikes, quiet coastal drives, and moments of stillness where time seems to slow. Each fjord reveals new perspectives, from towering sea cliffs and remote valleys to waterfalls spilling into the ocean below.
Throughout the journey, wildlife encounters add another layer of wonder. Puffin colonies gather along windswept cliffs, seals rest along sheltered shores, and with a bit of luck, you may even spot the elusive Arctic fox roaming the tundra.
This thoughtfully crafted itinerary balances active exploration with time to unwind, allowing you to fully appreciate both the dramatic landscapes of the Westfjords and the once-in-a-lifetime spectacle of the solar eclipse. Together, they create an unforgettable Icelandic adventure defined by discovery, solitude, and the magic of a sky-darkening moment shared in one of the world’s most extraordinary destinations.
